I dropped off my Xbox late Friday night and it was professionally modded in under a day -- no nasty hardware scratches or blemishes.

Do yourself a favor and use DJP's service if you live within driving distance of Waterford, MI.

There's something comforting about a face-to-face drop off and pick up, unlike blindly mailing out a unit... let alone the lost time and extra $$$ for shipping. He does great work, and I'd certainly use his service again!

My experience will (reluctantly) be the first negative review for House of Modchips. Daryl said I’ll be the first idiot to give him a negative review. I say what good is this system if only the positive reviews are included. So here’s my experience.

After reading all the positive reviews and seeing the great pricing I ordered four chips the first time out. I average six installs a week mostly by word or mouth advertising among friends and family. Some folks provide their own chips and some I order.

I placed an order for three XBITS and one SmartXX. Everything was going smooth. Fast replies to questions and fast shipping. For some reason my order was split into two FedEx shipments.

On the day of arrival the three XBITS were delivered on a Friday morning around 11:00 a.m. At 2:00 p.m. we left for the holiday weekend and did not return until Monday night. I checked FedEx tracking and saw that the other package was delivered around 9:00 p.m. on Friday night but there was no sign of it on my property. We have community mailboxes here and only the USPS letter carrier can leave mail in them.

The next morning I call FedEx and explain the circumstances. They check the logs and say that the driver left the package on my doorstep. I explain that it was not there and they open an inquiry for the driver. I call back a couple of days later and I’m told that the driver did not respond to the inquiry and I should have the shipper file a claim.

This is where it all starts to go south. I send HOM an email explaining everything that has transpired and they ignore it. I figure fine they are busy and I follow up in a day or two and I get this nasty attitude from someone that is very reluctant to file a claim but I persist and they do it.

Eventually I start getting these emails forwarded to me from HOM, which they in turn were getting from FedEx. I dig deep into one of them and I find the claim description that HOM gave FedEx:

“Customer remarks: The tracking number says delivered but this guy is bugging me to file a claim cause he said he never got it.”

I send an email to HOM indicating that I was not pleased with this treatment especially since I just purchased four chips on my first order.

I get this response:
“Sir i apologize for this and believe me, my receptionist will hear about this one. It was not me who filed the claim.”

Then at least two weeks go by without a single response to any of my follow up emails to HOM. Nobody shows any interest until last Tuesday when I say that I am going to give up and just go tell what happened in the forums.

I was offered an Aladdin in exchange for the SmartXX I never received.

I have been polite and patient all the way up until you stopped responding to my inquiries, even after your receptionist practically called me a liar. And now I get more of the same from you. Tell me when the “better customer service” was going to begin? How many more days of being accused of lying did I have to grin and bear before I would have gotten the “better customer service”?

If relating my experience accurately and truthfully in public makes me an idiot then so be it. Maybe the next time this happens you will think twice before you torpedo somebody from the start. God forbid two idiots should come forward. I’ll sleep on it tonight and think very carefully about how to relate my experience in the forums. I guarantee that it will be honest and accurate. You go ahead and call me a liar and an idiot in public I don’t care.

Like i said, it isnt our fault that fedex left a package at your house and someone stole it, i offered you a replacement for free.. it may not be a smartxx but it still is better then nothing. the claim was filed, and its not my fault that fedex hasnt responded on the claim yet. probably because they know its a bogus claim. and please do tell the forums, you will be our first idiot to leave us a bad feedback when the problem isnt even because of us. if you havnt noticed everyone loves our customer service, maybe you would get better service if you werent so rude. Yes you may be a good customer and order a few chips, but that doesnt give you the right to treat us like a peice of shit.

Folks I assure you that if HOM had not treated me like a liar from the start and if they had given FedEx a serious claim I would not be here today giving them their first negative review. I can’t file a claim with FedEx because I am not the shipper and HOM is not the least it interested in pursuing the issue beyond the opening the claim. They won’t follow up with FedEx and as far as HOM is concerned my claim is bogus.

I’m giving up on HOM and calling VISA in the morning.

Awful service, do not waste your time, I placed a order Sept 24 with 2 day delivery waited patiently for some sort of feedback, nothing so I use the live support which is a waste I asked if someone could help with my order and was childishly mocked by some irc lackies in the # no response from houseofmodchips.com staff, so I messaged a idle djp I get a email the next day stating that my package will be shipped in the next day or two so I wait still no confirmation email saying that the package was shipped so I go back to the live support the topic in the channel is business will resume the following week, this really pissed me off so I asked to cancel the order and delete my account and then placed another order with a different site (which went completely smooth I might add) they sent me a email saying that the owners had gotten married and were away on honey moon now thats all great congradz but if you want to operate a business then keep your personal matter separate, now I get a email stating that the order was shipped expected to arrive Oct 12! I specificly told them to cancel my order with plently of time they decided to process it anyway and still hit me for the express shipping, that is not right at all sham on you houseofmods.com! I felt that you had such positive feedback and great prices that it would be well worth my time to give you my business then you pull something like this? Thanks for nothing I already placed a order else where and received items well within you shipping time frame!

And if you wouldnt of been so rude with us maybe we would of came out of our own pockets and provided you another chip even though its not our fault. I dont appreciate being called repeadtly a "FUCKHEAD", and im sure no one else would either. I Explained to you over and over again fedex wasnt going to do nothing, so it is out of my hands.?

I ordered through the pre-mods.com site on September 26th, which is another face of houseofmodchips.

I also got the email about the delay because of the honeymoon. The delay is kind of a bummer and I wish I had known about it up-front, but I can't really get too upset about it. I'm sure that's a one time deal, and weddings are more important than mod-chips anyway. |^)

Now the website has a message about a server crash and it looks like my account and order were lost, though I've already been charged. It says to email them with my invoice, but I did that two days ago and haven't gotten a response. (Order #55 if anyone there is reading)

So it hasn't been too great so far, but looking at the wealth of good reviews here I may just be having a run of bad luck. I'll post an update in this thread once this is all worked out.

Update 10/25:
A day after my last post I sent a second email and recieved a reply on the 13th saying they would get the order out within the next few days. I didn't hear anything after that, and sent new emails on the 19th and 21st asking for an update. Those were not replied to.

I spoke to DJP's wife via IRC on Saturday. She was very nice and tried to help but didn't know how to find the order. She said djp was out, but would contact me through IRC or email when he got back.

Now it's Monday, and I still haven't heard anything. I'm not sure what else I can do. More updates to follow.

Update 10/27:
I called the phone number on my bank statement yesterday and got through. After rifling through the computers they found one of my previous emails, and agreed to ship today. I haven't gotten a tracking number yet, but I have high hopes.

I'm still kind of irritated that it has taken over a month to get it out, but if it's a quality mod I'll deal. I'll update once I get the tracking info.

Update 11/01:
No progress made, I can't get any responses through email and he has been afk 93 hours in IRC. There seem to be some people in the channel who can help with tech support, but not order information.

This is pretty sad.

Update 11/15:
Revieved an email on the 10th explaining the delay. He had a pretty good reason for the latest delay, but still doesn't respond to email or appear in IRC. I have some hope of the order being sent this week, but after this I'm giving up. Two months is my limit.

I ordered a xecuter 3 premodded system, on their site is says 2-3 days processing time, when it took them about 5-6. So there was a bit of a delay, but other then that the service was great. Will order again.

Placed an order on 10/09 (billed that day too). On the 13th, got an email saying the order was being processed and would ship within 2 days. After several days and 3 emails, I got an email on the evening of 10/22 saying that my order was ready and would go out on Monday, 25th, upgraded (?) to 2 day shipping and would be here Wednesday. Wed., Thurs. and Friday came and went, no package yet. I've tried to contact them via email and the online support, not having much luck. Not a pleasant experience.

Ok. Lets get this out of the way. If you treasure your sanity don't order from these people. That's the TL;DR version.

Let's get the story of hell started here. I originally ordered from these guys becuase they were cheap. This is just about the only thing going for them. I saved about 10 dollars I think. Either way, I order my premod, come Tuesday I'm told it'll ship Wednesday or Thursday. I say ok, I'm fine with that. I'm happy at this point, ecstatic that I'll get my xbox soon. But that feeling will soon subside. From Wednesday to Friday, I fire away email after email trying to get some type of response to some of my questions, and nothing. Nothing at all, my order is still at processing come Friday. So I go to "24/7 chat support". I'd seriously have a better chance of getting ANY of my questions answered by a fucking wall. ONLY there do I find out that the people went to get married( which is totally fine by me, I understand why my xbox wasn't shipped out). What did piss me the fuck off is how these people made up some shit about a problem that caused a delay in the shipping and no work being done on my xbox at all. They could have also emailed people who ordered that they were gone, instead of letting the dozens of people who did order all run aorund like fucking chickens with their heads cut off wondering what the fuck is up. EVEN BETTER was them allowing us a goddamn refund so we could go somewhere else with out business AND NOT WAIT A MONTH. Already thats lie number one regarding a ship date. That marks the end of week 1.

Week 2 starts just fine. Late at night on October the 7th, a Thursday I get a email that states my xbox will ship out Friday. Oh shit! Is that right, I'm overjoyed and shit. Until friday night comes and I have no tracking number, I wonder why. The reason why is because they just coincidentally finished my xbox five minutes before I sent them an email. Lie number 2 regarding my ship date.

Week 3 my xbox finally ships, but becuase of Columbus Day it gets shipped on a Tuesday. I receive it on Thursday becuase work inteferes with my package room hours. Thursday afternoon I pickup my package, and go home. As soon as I open it I notice some stank ass controller I got. That was scratched, and had all that dirt in it, when you use a controller for a long time and it gets stuck between the opening in the controllers. So I'm wondering what this shit is, is this xbox USED. When I setup my xbox I notice theres gamesaves on the xbox. Ding Ding, this shit is used as far as I'm concerned. (Theres little dents in the xbox too) I send another email to these people and ask them what the fuck is going on and why do I have a used xbox. Was the fact that my box said NEW XBOX on it not indication enough for them not to send me a used xbox. Either way, I need to send them my xbox so they can take care of shit. I say I'll send it on Monday.

Week 4 on Monday I send it out. They then apparently need to wait until my xbox gets there for them to even start with my new xbox. They're doing a fucking disservice to me and can't do one goddamn thing to hurry up my goddamn xbox out. It's not like I'm trying to gyp these fuckers here, I'd just like my shit before xbox 2 comes out. On Thursday, I get an email saying it'll ship out that day or Friday. At this point I dont believe a goddamn word these people say. Thursday passes, Friday afternoon passes, Friday night comes and guess who has no indication of shit shipping out. I send email after email and get nothing, no response at all No response up to the time of this writing, which is Monday. Lie 3 regarding a ship date.

This Monday marks a full month since I ordered my xbox. 1 month of getting fucked around and hassle and emails. At this point I wouldnt be suprised if it took another month, DJP is no where to be found, "support" isnt asnwering shit. The only time people are talking in there is when other people like me are wondering where the fuck their orders are. All of them, after I talked to them, are going through the same shit as me. Promised ship dates, taking too long, and other shady business.

I seriously wouldn't be suprised to find that someone shit in my xbox at this point.

I ended up getting the xbox Thursday the 28th, a month and 3 days after ordering it. And my check for shipping reimbursment wasnt in it.

All in all, don't do business with these people, they're shady, take way too fucking long to ship shit, and think they can fuck around with people and take their money.

Nov 7 I've emailed DJP regarding my check not coming and have not got any response for over a week.

I sent a paypal payment for a premodded X3 XBOX on SEPTEMBER 19th (over 2 months ago). I'm still waiting to have a fully functional xbox to this day.

i was in the 24hr live support and got to talk to i think djp before i ordered. he answered every question i had prior order. although the order hasnt shipped yet im guessing its because it was on tuesday. if it hasnt shipped by today i will probably email them asking when it will. otherwise they've been very helpful. will update when have shipping confirmation. #187

welp ive been duped. this guys a joke. when i placed the order, everything seemed great. i even got to talk to the guy a few times. well my order came in about a week and a half ago and although everything looked good at first, i then started to notice things not in my order. i ordered 3 things, a xbox chip, a ps2 chip, and the required wires for the ps2install. lets get started, the first thing i noticed missing was the pins for the pinheader install. after noticing that, i scanned and realised the d0/lan wires for the xbox chip werent there. then i soon realised that the power/gnd cable that was supposed to come with the ps2install kit was also MIA. when i confronted djp, at first he seemed very helpful, assured me the stuff would be shipped the next business day. i waited for about a week and nothing. this leads me to yesterdays conversation. he infact stated he had not shipped the stuff and had accused me of trying to get free stuff. can you believe that, a dollars worth of crap he accused me of trying to steal. i became very leniant and told him that the only thing i really needed was the d0 wires and that i even remade the wires and would settle for him taking a good picture of the wires so i can know the location of the red grey and i believe green wire. he said give him twenty minutes, its been 16hrs. i also noticed how he ignored me in the 24hr support and answered another guys questions until i had to remind him i was still waiting for an answer. i went to the xecutor message boards and told them about my missing piece but they told me i had to ask the reseller. RIDICULOUS. he couldnt even get the install kit right and he has to make that himself.

On November 11, 2004, I sent my used PS2 system and a brand new XBOX system to be modded for a total cost of $159.50 and that’s including me supplying the DMS3 chip for the PS2.
I am constantly emailing them about the status of my order and the only response I have received was that the condition of my sons PS2 was such that they refused to mod it.
They stated that it did not read discs at all and that is simply not true, why would someone send 2 systems and pay the money toward modifications on a faulty machine when new units sell for $149.00.

So I have attempted to ask about the XBOX status and offered to buy a PS2 system from them so they could complete my order by Christmas and both inquiries have been unanswered.
As of December 18th I am out 2 systems worth $300, a DMS3 chip at $45 and my order of $159.50 with the house of modchips totaling $504.50 with no certainty from anyone that anything will arrive back to my home address. I'm just left with a big empty feeling and no one seems to care.

Just wanted to let u know that I gave u a negative report on Xbox-scene. I am tired of waiting for things I was promised and pissed me was called a liar about not receiving items on my order. the hell with this crap, I was ripped off and the only solution u came up with was pretty much saying screw you.

I'm not feeling real good about things, the more posts I read, none seem to be answered by the house of modchips people in a timely fashion.

I don't understand, this is the first time I heard of the PS2 not reading discs from anybody and when I sent it, I did. The fact is that it was used for 3 years and even read dvd-r movie discs along with PS2 and PS one game discs. I am confused about the hostility because I have only asked if the game systems would be available for my son for Christmas. I sent a brand new XBOX system as well and heard nothing on it, are you sure you are answering back to the correct customer? Please tell me what is going to happen now with my order?

Yes, the ps2 you sent us was already opened, the serial numbers were removed, none of the feet were on it and it looks like it has been through hell, we decided to test this ps2 before even opening it and it won’t read any discs for us.

Please tell me what if anything, I could do to fix the problem with the PS2. I would like the XBOX sent even if the PS2 difficulties are not fixed. I accept that the damage to the PS2 was and is my fault but if I could send more money for a different system or any other options to remedy the problem, I would be extremely cooperative.

I would not recommend this site to anyone who expects to be treated respectfully. If receiving professional service is desired, such as emails that are ethical and timely informative email replies to its customers, I think it would be wise to try some one else!

December 15, 2004 is the last message received from the boys at house of modchips.com and has ignored several attempts made by me to resolve this dispute without reply.

I would like the XBOX sent even if the PS2 difficulties are not fixed. I accept that the damage to the PS2 was my fault, I did my best to protect it during shipping without having the original box, but if I could fix the situation by sending additional money to cover the additional repairs necessary for the game console to work or for a different system or any other options to remedy the problem, I would be open to hear them.
I did not understand what an earlier email reply meant by claiming serial numbers were removed and its general poor condition. I simply tried to help my son with his older PS2 system that he had already paid someone locally $35 to mod with a DMS3 chip. The chip cost around $50 if I can remember correctly and the most he got from his expenses was that the modded console could now play DVD-R movies. (It did play original PS1 and PS2 discs as well)
The XBOX system was brand new and intended to be a surprise for his Christmas present along with fixing his PS2 console. Since the initial order was placed on November 11, 2004, I thought it would not be unreasonable to expect them back on plenty of time before Christmas. I really need to know, in some great detail, what is going on with my order. The last response was on December 15 was this one

Now I have explained to the best of my ability why the console looks the way it did, but honestly, I re- read all the email responses provided by Darryl and I have no clue what if anything is happening to my sons Christmas gifts this year. I think if the intent was never to mod the chip after a first glance (try to remember I included an extra charge for the removal of the old DMS3 chip, so the response about the consoles appearance is odd at best) a full refund of my order should have been given along with the return of both systems right then. I do have the serial number for the XBOX I sent to prove it was brand new and fully expect the exact system that was originally sent to your company to be returned to me. The date this message is being sent is December 22, 2004 and I very much wish to have a complete explanation of why this order took so long for anyone to let me know if the systems were being returned back to me, or in progress of being completed or what?

I just want to say that this has been a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE..
My friend ordered 2 modded xbox's from these guys about 3 weeks ago. He received his order with no problem. Me on the other hand ...
I ordered mine on dec. 28th charged on the 29th was told it would ship on jan 4th got an email with a tracking number on jan 5th. That tracking number wouldn't even bring up any results tracking it under fedex. Jan 6th the tracking number comes up under fedex, but it says its not in there possession. I've sent at least 5 emails and haven't gotten a response back once. Very poor customer service. Who knows when i'll ever get my xbox, or ever hear from these guys...
