PS3 outsells Xbox 360 in Q2 worldwide
Posted by XanTium | 30-10-2008 0:46 EST

From eurogamer.net:
[QUOTE]
A comparison of Sony's corporate unit sales data and comments made by an investor relations spokesperson for Microsoft suggest that PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 worldwide for the three months ending 30th September.

The PS3 shifted 2.43 million consoles throughout the period, according to freshly-published Q2 FY 2008 figures - nearly double that for the same stretch last year.

This puts Sony ahead of Microsoft, which recently told AFP the 360 shifted 2.2 million units for the same period.

So they pulled ahead for quarter... be interesting to see how the price cut's on the 360 affect the 3rd quarter?

Be interesting to see the figures 18 months from now.
MS has pulled it's rabbits from it's hat with the price cuts and Sony is still not budging on prices yet, so it still has ammunition left to fire.

It may be for MS (but I seriously doubt it). PS3 is not 2 years old yet.
Easy to call game over when the end is not yet in sight.
Press speculation about new consoles for MS is just that.

Indeed, I think the PS3 will be here a lot longer then the 360

The fact that the PS3 already has future-proof technology, such as:
Games on BluRay
Built-In HDD (Upgradable)
Built-In Wireess
BluRay Player (WIth BluRay doing better every month)

I'm sure the next 360 will have the same featurs as the PS3, just more powerful

Anyway, not trying to rag on the 360, just saying PS3 will see a lot longer life then the 360... I love both smile.gif

Well, the 360 has an upgradeable HDD, and Blu-Ray movies losing popularity quickly due to movie download sites or services that allow them. Also, very few PS3 games fully utilize Blu-Ray storage capabilities, since most games are released on the 360, as well. It may be good technology, but in the same way the dreamcast VMU was good technology; both are underutilized.

Well, the 360 has an upgradeable HDD,

Not like the PS3. Any 2.5 sata can be simply slotted in.

That is simply not the case. Streamed movies are not the same quality and people don't have uncapped internet access everywhere. So whilst that may be true where you reside, it is not the same for all.

So you think the size of the games on the 360 and it's counterpart on the PS3 are identical. many games use the capacity (some would argue unnecessarily) and the option is there for future games.

You're probably right, but i'm betting MS will at least officially state their new console in the next 12 to 18 months.

But besides, in 24 months the 360 and ps3 will be 5 and 4 yrs old, respectively. If the ps3 hasn't overtaken the 360 by then, it will not matter regardless of future systems.

I've said it before and i'll say it again... there is ZERO chance that a new console from MS / Sony will be out in the next 18months... if they handed us the devkits RIGHT NOW we'd struggle to get a game out for then... they are not handing us devkits right now.

this generation still has a lot of life for all 3 consoles. i feel we're about 40% through this gen. i don't think i've played the best games that any console could offer and each console has so much more potential. no company appears to be rushing. they are working on their plan bit by bit. this is a generation of change.
