NO! If this is true (I have my doubts about the credibility of this) that means they're turning off the EE+GS in the consoles that have them!

I'm not done with FFXII yet, and last time I checked the compatibility was 1 out of 3 stars (or something) for that game.

If they do turn the PS2 hardware off without the option for the user to control that setting, I'm selling this pile of junk. dry.gif

(In case your wondering, for some reason my PS2 has the "pixel flipping" that the PS3 had before 1.52 or whatever it was, so I don't want to go back to it)

All I use my PS3 for is PS2 anyways.

EDIT: to further clarify, the only thing that has held me back from selling the console as far back as march was the fact that I have a PS3 with PS2 hardware in it - and if I ever bought one in the future after selling my current one it would not have it.

I guess that statement in bold above could go either way...but with the way I think, I assumed it was Sony's lawyer-esque way of telling us "some of your PS2 games may not work anymore biggrin.gif"

Do you really think they'd block out ANY of the games within the final fantasy series from PSX/2? I for one severely doubt it.. Sony's gotten a lot of flack for their console, but as we receive more information it's looking more and more like it's going to shape up to be a fantastic system.

What you said about final fantasy does make sense, and under normal circumstances one would automatically assume that, but given Sony's recent track record I'm not so sure....

I hope you're right though.

I'm sorry but I would never use BC as my main option for old games. I prefer to play them on there proper consoles, with proper controllers. So I will keep my PS1 and PS2 when I eventually get a PS3 in March (I'm waiting a year).

The firmware looks good, I just hope they keep getting the memory footprint down as much as possible.

If that's all you do with your PS3 then don't update.

Ha, I considered that, but then I wouldn't be able to play the occasional online game (I do so every once in a while)

I'd like to see a larger support for the types of video that can be played back

I'm wondering this too. If Sony intends to kill the hardware, aka disconnect it's usage, in launch models like the one I got. If this is the case........it would be detrimental...... I wish someone, like SONY, could tell us that SONY has no intention messing with the hardware of the ps2 in lauch ps3 systems and will not implement ps2 emulation for all sytems regardless. This would ease my worries.

it's just another update i'm not doing, i'm at 1.54 and i wish i hadn't updated to that, i could care less about psn or home. there is nothing i want to play online anyway, and i'll use my 360 for online instead. i guess it's just been an expensive dvd player for me with only my 4 games i have.

well nothing too interesting. rss reader is cool, kinda. like the web browser, i won't use it but i guess nice to have. all my ps3 does is fold. that is all it will ever do until Home comes out. at that point, I'll try out Home and if it is good then I'll use Home, if it is wack then back to folding. worst video game console i've ever bought. i like my saturn & segacd more.

also, i won't be updating.

Kinda harsh to say that Sega CD was better... Might as well add that 32x was better than PS3
